Preparing yourself for a successful interview

You first want to make sure you know as much as you can about the company that is interviewing you. This information not only helps you better assess whether your values line up with the company's, but also lets the interviewer know you are serious. Look at the company's website, review annual reports, and try to read company newsletters. Get yourself acquainted with their internal structure, long-term goals, and philosophy. Stay on top of any news related to the company or industry, and use social media to see what sort of image the company wants to display. The more information you can find, the better prepared you will be.

Take a thorough look at the job description. You can easily figure out what kind of questions you may be asked based on the job advertisement. You may also find that the job description brings up questions for you. Prepare those questions and ask them in the interview. Remind yourself why you applied in the first place and use that information during your interview. Take another look at your CV and cover letter; the company invited you for a reason, so be sure you know your greatest strengths when you walk through the door.

Research what the most common interview questions are and then rehearse your answers. Integrate examples from your own experience that showcase why you are the right person for the position. If there are any specific stories or points you would like to make, write them down and then see how you can integrate them into these answers. Ask a friend to prepare and practise with you for added confidence.

No company invites a candidate to an interview unless they are genuinely interested in them. Remember this during the interview-it will help you stay confident.
