What does it take to build a successful career with PageGroup as a recruitment consultant? In this article, we will discuss the qualities – from the soft skills to the technical skills – you will need to become a successful consultant for one of our global brands.
Life at PageGroup is quick. We are an agile, mobile company that grows organically around the world. So by clicking on the link and starting to read this article you have already met some conditions – by showing interest and following-up.
We evaluate you by your examples – so if you tell us you always have positive energy, we will want to hear your success stories. It is of course possible that some of your success stories come from outside of the world of work. But if they show determination, and drive, they highlight what we want to see in your daily work – and they give us an idea of your way of approaching challenges.
This position requires multi-tasking and original thought – so let us know how you think about problems, what solutions you came up with to an unusual situation – after all, as a consultant you will be both in sales and human resources, and need to show us in the interview that you can both manage people and sell to them – very different skill sets.
Lasting success for PageGroup comes from our deep-seated belief in the power of teamwork – sharing the load, helping our colleagues and friends, advising wherever possible, offering best practice – the list goes on. These work relationships help you grow as an individual and PageGroup grow as a company. After all, the team that works and plays together stays together.
As Çağla Şengöz, Senior Manager for Michael Page Sales & Marketing in Türkiye explains, “For example, during your interview we will ask you to tell us about yourself. We want to know what your most distinctive personality traits are, how your family and friends would describe you, what your strengths are and areas that you need to work on are – as we want to build up an image of you. A whole image, not just a professional one, because you and your traits will be leading us forward if you are successful,” Şengöz concludes.
Your interviewer will assess your communication skills using a question and answer round, seeing how you effectively communicate, how you judge your answers and how you explain yourself. Your interviewer will also try to pull out information on your diligence and resilience when faced with problems – because naturally there are ups and downs in the workplace – and your ability to stay positive, calm and motivated.
We try to build up as complete an image of you as a person as possible during the interview process, as we want to see the combination of your technical and soft skills – a profile with too much focus on technical skills might not always be as competitive in practice. Show us your emotional intelligence and versatility, your dynamism – after all, this is a client facing role where you are the representative of the company, we want to see your personal skills up close.
How do you know if you are right for a career at PageGroup? Experience as a recruiter is not necessary, the skills you need here are learnt – and brought with you. For example, have you ever negotiated with someone? Have you had to adapt a presentation due to a new audience, to think on your feet in a pressure situation? Had to push yourself to reach a target – and succeeded? If you answered yes to these questions, mixed with your ability to be compelling and persuasive, your team centred work ethic, and your desire to meet targets then a career with PageGroup is perfect for you.
Work hard, play hard might seem like a motto from the past, but it truly does represent what PageGroup is all about – the rough and the smooth, the hard and the soft, the difficult and the harder. Why would we want our future consultants thinking about socialising before they have even worked? Because at PageGroup, we believe that the harder you play with your colleagues, building up relationships with them as you go, the better you work in the long-term, sharing in collective and individual success and growth.
“At PageGroup, you will be part of a long-established global recruitment consultancy at the leading edge of the profession,” explains Çağla Şengöz. “We take pride in our ability to promote our senior leaders from within the company – over 87% of our directors come from our ranks.
“Our consultants relish the opportunities this job presents to change people’s lives. To deliver on our promises. To exceed the expectations of our clients and our candidates. To bring about the change people want in their lives (or business) when they first contact us about a position. Life at PageGroup is truly #morethanajob,” Şengöz concludes.
